Invisalign is a more discreet, hygienic, and comfortable orthodontic treatment than traditional braces. Patients who want to correct their alignment without the cosmetic disruption of metal brackets and wires being bonded to their teeth can turn to clear aligner therapy.
Invisalign can correct an array of orthodontic problems, including crooked teeth, overcrowding, gaps, and even bite problems. In the past, Invisalign was thought to only be suitable for very minor cosmetic issues but this is no longer the case thanks to Invisalign attachments and elastics.
If you have more severe malocclusions, we can bond tooth-colored buttons made of composite resin to your teeth. They come in varying shapes and sizes but are not very noticeable with your aligners on. Why would we do this?
They help anchor your aligners to perform more complex tooth movements by helping place additional force to rotate certain teeth or shift the jaws to correct bite problems. You just need to wear your aligners for 22 hours per day and change them every 2 weeks.
Invisalign is the number one clear aligner brand in the market. They have demonstrated that they are a reputable brand with high-quality materials that produce the best results. Clear aligners are a great option for teenagers and adults wanting to straighten their teeth.
This is around the age when people start to become concerned with the cosmetic appearance of their teeth as well as the aesthetic of their orthodontic treatment. Many adults put off orthodontic treatment entirely because they don’t want to be embarrassed wearing braces.
By using clear aligners, no one will even be able to tell that you’re wearing anything because they’re fully transparent. This gives you the power to straighten your teeth in secrecy. Since the aligners are made of thermoplastic instead of metal, they’re also more comfortable, less damaging to your teeth, and cause less pain.
The brackets and metal wires in braces are bonded into place so they can’t be removed during treatment. That prevents patients from thoroughly cleaning their teeth, usually resulting in discoloration once they take them off.
Certain foods can also get stuck or damage braces so you need to eat a restricted diet. Since Invisalign is removable, you can eat whatever you want as long as you take your aligners off first and you can remove your aligners to brush and floss without any obscured surfaces. Most people also enjoy faster treatment time with Invisalign compared to braces.
The process begins with a consultation at North Billerica Smiles. Your dentist in Billerica will perform an oral exam and take x-rays to rule out oral health problems and to determine how severe your case is. We’ll discuss your concerns about your alignment and what you would like to achieve. You may not be a good candidate for Invisalign if you have severe orthodontic problems. Impressions and digital scans will be taken of your teeth and sent to the Invisalign lab. We’ll also formulate a treatment plan of how your teeth need to move and any bite problems that need to be corrected.
The lab techs at Invisalign will upload your scans and impressions into their software so that they can create a highly realistic 3D model of your teeth. This enables them to digitally plan your treatment so that you can visually see how your teeth will move through the course of treatment and how your alignment will look when treatment is over.
We will have access to this software and can show you the digital model of your teeth so you know what your teeth will look like at the end of this process. Using your impressions, aligners are fabricated out of thermoplastic material to meet the exact contours of your teeth.
After a few weeks, your aligners will arrive at our office and you can pick them up to begin your treatment. You will wear this set of aligners for two weeks and then change your aligners to the next set.
Every 6 weeks, you will return for routine check-ups to ensure your teeth are moving properly and to provide you with more aligners. By the end of your treatment, you might require a few additional aligners to refine your smile. Otherwise, you’re all done! New impressions will be taken to fabricate your retainer, which you will need to wear to prevent your teeth from shifting.
